DKE's phased development plan takes the project from concept through to 25 years of commercial hydrogen operations, anchored by Enapter's proven AEM technology and the strategic advantages of the Dongo Kundu SEZ.
The Dongo Kundu Free Trade Zone and adjacent Port Area provide direct access to Mombasa Port logistics, the Mombasa Southern Bypass, and the Kipevu Link Road — strategically positioning DKE for efficient distribution of green hydrogen and medical oxygen across Kenya and East Africa.
Phase 1 · 2023–2025
Company formation, site acquisition at Dongo Kundu SEZ, Enapter AEM Nexus 2500 technology selection, and pre-feasibility studies completed.
Phase 2 · 2027–2028
Full construction and commissioning: 20 MW solar array, BESS, SWRO desalination, 4 × Enapter Nexus 2500 electrolysers and medical O₂ ASU.
